An explosion has taken place in a market in Afghanistan's Kandahar city, killing at least three people, local officials say.

At least 20 people were also injured in the blast, Javed Faisal, a spokesperson for the provincial governor, told Al Jazeera.

The explosives were fixed to a cart in the city's cattle market, Faisal said.

All those injured and killed were civilians, according to the government.
