Afghans flee US offensive in Helmand

As US military forces push deeper into Taliban territory in the southern Afghan province of Helmand, residents head north to Lashkar Gah, the provincial capital, to flee the offensive.

The objective of the US assault is to retake the entire lower Helmand river valley, where Taliban fighters enjoy safe havens.

But as Al Jazeera’s Zeina Khodr reports, some residents say it is civilians who are paying the price.
