US marines in Afghanistan have brought their fight to the heart of Taliban territory in an operation codenamed Striking Sword.
The main thrust is through the Helmand River valley in the south of Afghanistan where vast opium poppy fields are cultivated to finance the Taliban’s insurgency. Al Jazeera’s David Chater reports.
