The Pakistani government says it has agreed to a 10-day ceasefire with the leader of pro-Taliban tribal fighters in the country's northwestern Swat Valley region.

Al Jazeera has learned that Sharia would be introduced in the region as part of the five-point agreement reached between the government and the so-called Pakistani Taliban on Sunday.

The regional government of Pakistan's North West Frontier Province (NWFP) has been in negotiations with Maulana Sufi Muhammad, leader of the Tahrik-e-Nifaz Shariat Muhammadi group.

Muhammad said a five-member delegation of Nifaz Shariat would meet NWFP's chief minister in provincial capital Peshawar on Monday to continue peace negotiations.

Mullah Fazlullah, another leader of the group, also announced on Sunday that they were releasing a held Chinese engineer as a goodwill gesture.
