The People's Republic of China is celebrating 60 years since its founding with a mammoth display of national pride and ceremonial pomp.
There was much more to see in Bejing on Thursday than just the pageant of colourful floats streaming through Tiananmen Square, the same route the People's Liberation Army took 60 years ago under Mao Zedong's command.
On display was the might of China's army and its increasingly impressive military hardware.
