Myanmar’s military junta has sentenced Aung San Suu Kyi, the leader of Myanmar democratic movement, to a further 18 months under house arrest.

She has already spent 14 of the past 20 years in confinement.

The sentence will be enough to keep her away from next year’s election. The verdict in the army-ruled nation has drawn widespread international condemnation.

Al Jazeera’s Harry Smith reports.
