Malaysia has pledged to improve the welfare of domestic workers employed in its households, where many more than 300,000 women from neighbouring Indonesia work as maids.
Indonesian officials say about 1,000 of those women experience abuse annually in Malaysia. But Malaysian officials say only about 50 cases of abuse are reported to police each year. Al Jazeera’s Step Vaessen reports.
