Israel Fears Rehovot, Rishon May Be in Rocket Range

Following the Hamas resistance fighters’ pledge to face the Israeli aggression against the Gaza Strip with “surprises” that would afflict the occupation soldiers a serious defeat and fearing that Hamas may have missiles with a range over 40 kilometers, the Israeli occupation army Home Front Command has instructed the Rishon Lezion and Rehovot municipalities to prepare their bomb shelters, Israeli daily The Jerusalem Post has learned.

The Israeli occupation army has not ruled out the possibility that Hamas may have a handful of more advanced Katyushas that are capable of reaching Rishon Lezion and Rehovot.

"We need to be prepared for every scenario, including the possibility that Hamas has longer-range rockets that can hit cities north of Ashdod," a source in the Home Front Command said.

On Monday, Palestinian resistance fighters fired around 28 missiles into the occupied territories causing damages. A Grad rocket exploded Monday morning in an open area in the Hevel Yavne Regional Council, east of Ashdod. The rocket landed about 40 kilometers (24.8 miles) from the Gaza Strip.

Shortly afterwards, two Grad missiles exploded in Ashkelon. One landed near a city neighborhood, damaging the pavement. The other hit an open area. At the same time, a mortar shell exploded in the Sha'ar Hanegev Regional Council.

The rocket fire continues in the late morning hours as well. An air raid siren was sounded in Ashdod, Ashkelon and Sderot at around 11:50 am. Five Grad rockets and a Qassam rocket landed in open areas across the western Negev and the southern coastal plane. Two landed in the Sderot area, two in the Sdot Negev Regional Council and one near Ashdod.

Several settlers suffered shock in Sderot. Two rockets landed in open area in the Eshkol Regional Council. Five Qassam rockets exploded in open areas in the western Negev earlier Monday.

The Color Red alert system was activated in the Sderot area at around 7 am. Shortly afterwards, a rocket was found in an open area within the Sha'ar Hanegev Regional Council. Security forces located two additional Qassam duds that landed in open spaces in the Sdot Negev Regional Council.

Less than an hour later, two Qassam rockets exploded in open areas within the Eshkol Regional Council. The Israeli Air Force claimed it struck some 30 targets in the Gaza Strip on Sunday night, including a mosque, “a suspected antiaircraft machine gun” and several tunnels on the Philadelphi Route.

On Sunday, Ashkelon's northern and southern neighbors remained under fire, with buildings in Sderot and Ashkelon absorbing direct rocket impacts. Around 50 rockets had been fired into southern Israel by evening, with the Lahish and Negev regions targeted.

Sixteen rockets were fired at Netivot. Thirteen were fired at Sderot, and another 13 were fired at Ofakim. Three settlers suffered wounds and several others suffered shock.

In Ashdod, a Grad slammed into a store and sparked a blaze in a storeroom, wounding one settler and causing extensive damage to the structure.

The air raid siren in Ashdod failed to warn settlers of the approaching rocket, leading the Home Front Command to investigate. The problem was eventually blamed on a failure to connect the area to the siren system. In Sderot, a rocket slammed into a home, causing two settlers to suffer shock.
