The star of the classic US TV show that bears his name dies at home.

American Actor Andy Griffith of Matlock fame has died at the age of 86.

A deeply religious man from rural North Carolina, he once considered becoming a priest before choosing a career in entertainment.

And it was a career that endeared him to a public that will remember him best as Andy Taylor  - "America's Favourite Sheriff" and attorney Ben Matlock.
