Hillary Clinton, the US secretary of state, has told Israel that the status quo in the Middle East is unsustainable for all sides.

Addressing the annual policy conference of the influential pro-Israel group American Israel Public Affairs Committee in Washington DC on Monday, she reiterated the Obama administration’s “rock-solid” support for Israel’s security.

But she also said that settlements in the occupied East Jerusalem and West Bank was preventing peace between Israel and the Palestinians.
