The US president is set to announce his long-awaited decision on a revised military strategy for Afghanistan in a speech at the West Point military academy on Tuesday.

Before unveiling his plans, Barack Obama has met his top military and political advisers and briefed some foreign leaders.

Although the precise details of the plans are unclear, he is expected to order up to 35,000 more troops to the region.

Al Jazeera's John Terrett reports.
