The president of Honduras has dismissed his military chief after the general refused to back plans for changes to the constitution. Manuel Zelaya wants a public vote on amending the charter so that it better serves the poor. But he has faced resistance from the congress, courts and the military, who say that Zelaya is trying to hold on to the presidency.
