In the wake of the auto industry bailout failure, struggling US car makers are making sweeping cuts in order to avert a collapse.

General Motors, the biggest of them all, has announced one of the broadest shutdowns in the company’s history. 

But, as Al Jazeera’s John Terrett reports, foreign firms like Honda and Hyundai, which are operating in the southern US, are managing to keep their heads above water.
