Effectiveness of SA climate summit questioned

Activists say talks saddled by developed nations’ refusal to move away from carbon and fossil fuels.

Hundreds of delegates from about 200 countries have arrived to Durban to participate in the United Nations climate summit, one of the biggest diplomatic events ever hosted by South Africa.

African countries, the worst hit by the effects of climate change, are preparing to confront the world’s biggest polluters at the conference.

However, activists question the effectiveness of the Durban talks, which they say continue to be saddled by the continuing refusal of key industrialised countries to move away from carbon and fossil fuels.
