The South African-born former England cricketer Basil D'Oliveira, known affectionately around the world as "Dolly", has died at the age of 80.
He played 44 tests for England after emigrating due to lack of opportunities for non-white players in South Africa. He was a member of the England squad whose 1968 tour of South Africa was cancelled after the government refused to accept his participation.
The incident marked the beginning of South Africa's isolation in the sporting world that would last until 1991.
