Defectors from South Africa’s ruling African National Congress (ANC) have created a new party, the Congress of the People, or Cope.
They hope to take away the ANC’s majority in parliament in next year’s national election.
Al Jazeera’s Bernard Smith reports from Bloemfontein, where 4,000 Cope members have gathered to celebrate the creation of the party.
