The outbreak of the Zika virus two years ago caused a global health emergency.

Many cases were in the northeast of Brazil, where the illness was linked to an increase in babies born with a condition that severely limited their development.

Now those children are toddlers, the extent of their health problems is becoming painfully clear. The medicine is unaffordable and parents have to rely on donations from friends to be able to afford the treatment.

Al Jazeera's John Holman reports from Recife, Brazil.
