Washington's NFL team will host a traditional Thanksgiving day game for the first time in their history, but some Native American groups are using the occasion to protest against the team's 'Redskins' moniker.

A holiday tradition in the US has reignited controversy around sport and racism.

For the first time in the football league's history, one of this year's Thanksgiving football games is being held in the capital, Washington, DC.

But many see the host team's name, the Washington Redskins, a slur against Native Americans.

Al Jazeera's Alan Fisher reports from Washington, DC.
