Tuesday's plane crash in northwestern Russia highlights the poor air traffic safety record in Russia and the countries of the former Soviet Union.

The map above gives detailed information on major fatal crashes in Russia and former Soviet states in the past decade. Marker colors correspond to fatality numbers (Green - up to 49; Yellow - 50 to 99; Red - above 100).
