Hundreds of couples from around the world flocked to Argentina to compete in the sultry dance.
More than 350 couples participated in the festival(***)s Salon Tango competition, and over 100 couples in the Stage Tango competition. Stage Tango is highly choreographed, whereas Salon Tango involves more improvisation. Above, Japanese couple Manabu Kato and Genta Nakazawa compete in the Stage Tango semifinal round.

This year(***)s tango competition honoured Astor Piazzolla, the legendary composer and bandoneonista who revived the genre and infuriated purists by blending tango with rock music in the 1970s.
