The race, first rowed in 1829 is a British institution, attracting a large viewing audience both at home and overseas [GETTY]
Cambridge beat Oxford to win the 158th edition of the race last Saturday but a swimming intruder forced the umpire to halt the contest near the halfway mark with the crews racing close together [GETTY]
A man wearing a black wetsuit was almost hit by the oars of the Oxford crew before he was hauled out of the river and arrested by police for a public order offence. He later turned out to be an Australian protesting against elitism represented by rowers from Britain’s top universities [GETTY]
