The Egyptian authorities have ordered the release of leading Muslim Brotherhood figure Essam el-Erian, who had spent more than five months in custody without charge, as well as three other members on bail.

A detained Muslim Brotherhood leader has said he will contest September's election against President Hosni Mubarak, but Egypt's powerful Islamic group said it had not endorsed Essam el-Erian yet.
