Pakistani authorities have buried a locked coffin containing the body of Nawab Akbar Bugti, a former government minister and militia leader killed in Baluchistan on Saturday.

Clashes have erupted between Pakistani police and protestors who attended funeral prayers for a regional leader killed by the army.

Deadly riots have continued in towns and cities in Baluchistan and some other Pakistani provinces triggered by the death of Nawab Akbar Bugti, a Baluch tribal chieftain and politician, at the hands of security forces.

Hundreds of tribesmen fighting for greater independence for Baluchistan have surrendered to Pakistan's army and begun disarming, according to a government spokesman.

Clashes between Baluchi tribesmen and the Pakistani army in Baluchistan have left 50 people dead and scores injured, an Aljazeera correspondent in Islamabad said.

A powerful tribal chieftain has threatened armed resistance if the Pakistan government uses force in the country's restive southwest.
