US soldier killed in Iraq bombing

An American marine was killed in a roadside bombing while conducting combat operations west of Baghdad, the US military has said.

At least 1173 US troops have died in Iraq since March 2003

A military statement on Friday did not include the marine’s name, but said he was assigned to Regimental Combat Team-8 of the 2nd Marine Division. He was killed on Thursday west of Baghdad, the statement said.

 

As of Thursday, at least 1773 members of the US military had died since the beginning of the Iraq war in March 2003, according to an Associated Press count. At least 1363 died as a result of hostile action.

 

The figures include five military civilians.
