Hong Kong: Protesters call for democratic reform

Demonstrations in the streets of Hong Kong are calling for their government to resist pressures from mainland China to clamp down on democracy.

Thousands of people have marched in Hong Kong to express their frustration at what they say is China's tightening grip on the territory.

Democracy activists have been jailed, laws are about to change to allow the government to force through unpopular measures, and Chinese security officials are going to be given the right to operate on Hong Kong soil.

Many fear 2018 will be another disappointing year for the democracy movement.
