The innovative 'Backstreet Dogs' NGO is attempting to match stray dogs from Mexico with prospective Canadian pet owners.

Mexico has a serious overpopulation of street dogs, a problem that repeated sterilization campaigns have not been able to fix.

Millions of homeless canines roam the streets of the Latin American nation.

But now comes a radical new idea - an international refugee program for pets.
