US wants latest Saudi royal purge to be 'fair and transparent'

Despite US President Donald Trump's praise of Mohammed bin Salman's purge of the Saudi royalty, the US Department of State has urged the kingdom to adhere to Saudi law during the anti-corruption crackdown.

The Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman is trying to deal with major internal issues.

He's detained senior princes, businessmen and government ministers, as part of what he says is a crackdown on corruption.

The US State Department said on Tuesday it was urging Saudi Arabia to be "fair and transparent" in its handling of any prosecutions stemming from a sweeping corruption probe that has resulted in the arrests of dozens of princes and ministers.
