Large parts of the US are recovering from hurricanes, wildfires and floods and, according to scientists and the Government Accountability Office, or GAO, climate change is making such disasters worse.
According to a new GAO report, over the past decade alone, climate change has cost the US government $350bn, a figure the Office expects to rise dramatically in coming years. The report has dire expectations for the environmental challenges ahead.
However, the current US president has described global warming as a "hoax", and his head of the Environmental Protection Agency is a climate change sceptic.
