14 January 2007 - Presenter Laurence Lee was today confirmed as the latest recruit at Al Jazeera English, the 24-hour English-language news and current affairs channel, headquartered in Doha, Qatar. Laurence will present the news from the channel's London broadcast centre, based in Knightsbridge.

Director of News Steve Clark said "We are very pleased to have Laurence on board. As the channel expands post launch Laurence compliments the Al Jazeera brand and the quality of journalism we are proud to represent."

Before joining Al Jazeera English, Laurence was a correspondent with Sky News and most recently covered the Israel-Lebanon conflict from northern Israel. For his reporting on a five part journey through Russia before the Presidential elections, Laurence won the Russian International TV Awards, and helped Sky News to win the RTS Award in 2004. From 2001 to 2002 Laurence reported almost exclusively from the Middle East.

Laurence's career in journalism began as a BBC radio and TV news reporter in 1990.

Educated at Coventry School, he went on to Birmingham University where he gained a BA Hons in Latin and French.

About Al Jazeera English

Al Jazeera English is the world’s first English language news channel to be headquartered in the Middle East. Broadcasting from within the Middle East, looking outwards, Al Jazeera English will set the news agenda and act as a bridge between cultures. With unique access as the channel of reference for Middle East events, and broadcast centres strategically placed around the world in Doha, Kuala Lumpur, London and Washington DC, Al Jazeera English will balance the information flow from South to North, providing accurate, impartial and objective news for a global audience from a grass roots level, giving voice to different perspectives from under-reported regions around the world.

Al Jazeera English is building on the ground-breaking heritage of its sister Arab-language channel – Al Jazeera, which was responsible for changing the face of news within the Middle East, now extending that fresh perspective from regional to global.
