Lockerbie bomber al-Megrahi has died

Abdel Basset al-Megrahi, the former Libyan intelligence officer convicted of the 1988 Lockerbie bombing, has died.

Abdel Basset al-Megrahi, the former Libyan intelligence officer convicted of the 1988 Lockerbie bombing that killed 270 people has died, his brother has said.

His health had deteriorated quickly, his brother Abdulhakim told Reuters on Sunday.

Diagnosed with cancer, he was released from jail by Scottish authorities on “compassionate grounds” in 2009.

He died at home in Tripoli after a long battle with cancer. He was 59.
